Jersey Shore Star Mike Sorrentino Begins 8-Month Jail Term
Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in jail last year for tax evasion, and pleaded guilty. Without the plea deal, he might have received a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Mike's brother, Marc, was also sentenced to 24 months in jail.
The TV star surrendered himself to authorities to begin his eight month prison sentence.
On top of the prison sentence, Mike will have two years of supervised released, will have to complete 500 hours of community service, and had to pay a $10,000 fine and $123,000 in resitution.
Before turning himself in, the MTV star did an Instagram Live video to say farewell to his fans.
"The comeback is always greater than the setback," he said while in the car with his new wife Lauren Sorrentino.
His wife also posted a tribute to her husband on Instagram.
Her caption read, "So proud to call this incredible man my husband," she wrote alongside a throwback photo of the couple. "Just found this pic from Lake Tahoe the year we got back together in 2013. To the strongest man I know, I love you endlessly, see you soon honey #FreeSitch."
Mike was sent some messages of encouragement from his Jersey Shore co-stars.
On Instagram, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi said "Sending love to my brother today," and Jenni "JWoww" Farley wrote "love you Mike".
On Twitter, DJ Pauly D said "Free Sitch".
Mike recently tweeted the address where family and fans could write to him while at the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York, followed by a tweet that read "Be the change you wanna see".
