‘Big Mouth’ Is The New R-Rated Netflix Cartoon About Puberty
Did you know there’s a cartoon on Netflix, starring Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig from Bridesmaids fame, and you don’t even know about it?
It’s called ‘Big Mouth’ and it’s the story of two young friends, Nick Birch and Andrew Glouberman, who are inspired by show creators, Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg.
The guys are at that age where puberty is setting in, and they’re doing their best to navigate their way through the hormones and the changes.
Sounds pretty normal? Educational even?
Well it’s not what you think, it’s like ‘South Park’ meets ‘American Dad’, and by that I’m referencing the swearing, constant inappropriateness - and the fact that like in ‘American Dad’, there’s a mystical creature serving up trouble, i.e. the hormone monster.
The hormone monster is basically the personified bodily urges that boys of that age experience at very inopportune times - and he’s a rascal, let me tell you.
The first season is only 10 episodes, and once you knock them over, you’ll be GAGGING for more.
While there’s no official announcement about a second season as yet, creators of the show confirm there’s “a lot more ground to be covered in [regards to] puberty.”
"To say that we’ve scratched the surface would mean that we’d just ripped a pimple off and it’s getting infected," Kroll says.
"That doesn’t mean it’s the end of the pimple or the end of the show."
