Firstly, that’s the statistically-backed most popular names of the year; the ones parents actually used on their newborns, then, a the year comes to a close, lists surrounding name trends for the coming year tend to appear.
We’ve had boho inspired names, think River and Delilah, then we had a nod back to the older generation, in names like Ada, Elizabeth and Edward, and now, in 2018, it looks as though gender neutral names are set to take centre stage.
The prediction comes as parents consider more fluid ideas about identity and gender.
Mother and Baby in the UK reports that names like Max, Alex, Charlie and Andy are all trending - and all of a gender neutral nature.
Max is also being used as a girl’s name, as with Jessica Simpson’s daughter, Maxwell Drew.
As we know, Charlie can be used as a shortened name for both Charles and Charlotte.
There’s also a Royal flair leading predictions, with Harry and Meghan said to be popular choices for 2018.
