The F*cked Up Nightmare That Made Miley Cyrus Quit Drugs
Miley Cyrus is back with a new sound, a new look and a whole new attitude - and there's a pretty good reason for it all.
The ex-Disney star has freely admitted to smoking weed in the past but made the surprising revelation that she'd given it up for good in a Billboard interview to promote her new single Malibu.
"I'm not doing drugs, I'm not drinking, I'm completely clean right now!" Miley said at the time. "That was just something that I wanted to do.
"When I want something, it's f*cking easy for me. But if anyone told me not to smoke, I would have not done it.
"It's because it was on my time."
And now the singer has opened up about the trigger - two triggers, in fact - that prompted her to get sober.
The first was her new album, she told Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show.
"I've always been very stoned on your shows, I don't know if you know this," the 24-year-old explained.
"I want to be really clear, because I'm actually the most passionate about what I'm doing with this record.
"I loved making this record so, so much. This record for me at this moment is the most important album I've ever made.
"I wanted to make sure I was super clear when I'm talking."
The second was a recurring nightmare that started popping up every time she got high; it got so bad, Miley admitted, that she had to Google it to make sure it hadn't actually happened.
"I had a dream that I would die during my monologue on SNL, that I would get so stoned and died," she told the talk show host. "I kept having this nightmare."
But now, she says, she's feeling much more herself, adding: "I feel really calm and peaceful... I hope people get to see that."
