Heavily Pregnant Woman Robbed At Train Station In Sydney
Police have opened an investigation after a heavily pregnant woman was robbed of her handbag in Sydney’s south west yesterday.
Between 5pm and 5:20pm on Monday, a 23-year-old woman, who is 9-months-pregnant, was walking from Canley Vale Railway Station to meet her husband on First Avenue.
Before she could meet with her partner a man grabbed her handbag from over her shoulder and pulled, causing the woman to be dragged down a concrete walkway. Eventually the woman let go of her handbag and the robber began to run.
A man who witnessed the attack came to the woman’s aid and began to chase the robber down Third Avenue. This man’s wife had been waiting in a car to pick him up from the train station and also witnessed the attack. She also began to pursue the thief in her car.
Her husband eventually hopped in the car with her and they continued to follow the man down Prospect Road. They lost sight of the robber after he began kicking in fences and running through backyards.
Police were called to the scene at Canley Vale Railway Station where they spoke with the pregnant woman. She was then admitted to the Birthing Unit at Liverpool Hospital to be treated for cuts and abrasions and for observation. She has since been discharged.
The perpetrator has been described as being aged in his 20s with a medium build and short brown hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top with blue stripes and dark coloured track pants at the time of the attack.
Anyone who may have any information about the incident is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
