However, the humble microwave is capable of much more than heating up the pizza from the night before, check out what they can do below...

#1: Disinfect your sponges

Microwaving a sponge can actually kill 99.9% of most household germs! Just make sure you saturate them first and only put them in for around 60 seconds!

#2: Save stale bread

It can be done! Simply wrap your bread in a moist paper towel and zap it in the microwave for 20 seconds. The moisture from the towel will soak into your bagel and give it new life!

Microwave bulbs for 15 seconds and they'll come off much more easily.

#5: Save your stamps

Carefully remove a stamp from an envelope by putting a drop of water of it and then microwaving it for 10-15 seconds.

#6: Un-stick sugar clumps

Moisten a paper towel, wad it up, and put it in the box with your sugar. Close everything up and microwave it for 25 seconds. The moisture from the towel will transfer into the sugar.

Take a long sock and fill it up with rice and essential oils. Sew the open end shut and microwave it to make it warm. Then use it over and over on your sore muscles!

#8: Get more juice from your citrus fruit

Get more orange juice from your orange by blasting it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.

#9: Bake a cake

Plenty of sites have recipes for mug cakes, but it basically means getting together ingredients you probably already have in your home and making a cake - in the microwave!

#10: Toasted nuts, fast!

Put some nuts in a microwave-safe bowl, add a little oil, and microwave them in one-minute increments, stirring after each.
