Kids Offered Free Fruit At Woolworths Supermarkets

If grocery shopping with kids is a stressful activity for you, Woolworths' new initiative will have you breathing a sigh of relief.

The supermarket giant has announced that it will give away fruit for free at all 961 of its Australian stores.

Woolworths food group managing director Brad Banducci said "It is not only a great way to encourage healthy eating habits, but also an easy way to keep the little ones occupied while doing the shopping".

Woolies will place baskets of complimentary seasonal fruit in its stores and children will be allowed to pick a piece each.

The scheme will roll out next month and they expect to give away over one million pieces of fruit per year.

Fruit prices will not rise to compensate with this new scheme either.

"We know that a trip to the supermarket can be a busy time for mum and dad and the free fruit initiative is just one way we're hoping to give parent's a helping hand" Banducci said.

It was trialled at eight stores in South Australia with great success.
