Researchers Discover Seaweed That Tastes Like Bacon
Imagine if you lived in a magical land where bacon was a salty, crispy superfood, and your doctor asked you to replace kale with it in ALL your salads.
You’d think you were dreaming, right? Well, you’re not.
According to an article on the Independent, researchers have now discovered a seaweed strain that tastes like bacon and is TWICE as healthy as kale.
The researchers who made the discovery at Oregon State realised that the seaweed strain indeed tasted just like bacon when it was cooked.
Before cooking the seaweed, which is a form of red marine algae looks just like translucent red lettuce.
It grows very quickly and has been found to have quite a high nutritional value.
Researchers found that no US companies grow red algae for people to eat, but seaweed had been consumed by people in northern Europe for centuries.
“This stuff is pretty amazing," Langdon, a researcher, said. "When you fry it, which I have done, it tastes like bacon, not seaweed. And it's a pretty strong bacon flavor."
One thing’s for sure, the vegetarians and vegans among us are set to be well chuffed.
