Not-So-Nice Thing You Never Knew About Supermarket Bananas
Next time you go to the supermarket you might want to take an extra hard look at the bananas.
You see, comedian Craig Reucassel, best known for his work on The Chaser, recently discovered, only the very special bananas make it to the shelves.
In his new documentary series War on Waste, Reucassel revealed that up to 40 per cent of bananas are being turfed out due to aesthetics demanded by the supermarkets
He said that farmers are bing forced to throw away perfectly good fruit because it's are either too bent, too straight, too long, too short, too fat or too thin.
Speaking to News.com.au, Reucassel said:
“I was shocked by the waste... These bananas are highly edible but they don’t fit the cosmetic look. If they are too curved they are thrown out, if they are not curvy enough they are thrown out.
“It’s really hard being a banana these days.”
