The Scary AF Thing That Can Happen To Your Vagina

We're sorry to rub salt into the wound but if it's been a while since you last got hot and heavy, it may be affecting your health more than you think.

Vaginal atrophy is a pretty common condition that occurs when oestrogen levels drop lower than normal, causing the walls of the vagina to thin.

It can occur in women of any age, and sees fairly nasty symptoms like burning, discharge, itching, difficulty peeing and pain during sex.

But, actually, sex is one thing that can prevent vaginal atrophy from developing at all and can even ease the pain for sufferers; orgasming increases blood flow and gives your downstairs a little "workout".

And that, in turn, creates a great flow of oxygen and keeps your vagina from becoming too inflamed, thin or dry.

"It is very important that we have a healthy sex life with a partner or with ourselves," sex therapist Louise Mazanti told The Sun.

"People often say, 'I don't have a sex life because I don't have a partner'.

"But forget about that and have a sexual relationship with yourself.

"It's about using massage and touching the tissue so that it becomes alive, the blood flows and the tissue becomes elastic.

"It is really about exercising the tissue."

As if you needed an excuse to give yourself some ~loving~ tonight.
