A seven-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car at Temora, in NSW’s Riverina region.
It’s believed that the young boy was fatally hit by the car in the driveway of a home on Sunday afternoon and he unfortunately died at the scene.
The 35-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and they are expected to release more information at a press conference later today.
More as we get it.
Police have confirmed that the 35-year-old driver was the young boy's father.
"At this stage police are treating this as a gut-wrenching, terrible tragedy that is extremely concerning for all involved including family and first responders," Inspector Robert Vergano told reporters.
"Investigations indicate at this stage the vehicle was reversing along a very tight driveway and it appears the seven-year-old has run behind the vehicle... and sustained some fatal injuries."
Investigations are still ongoing but at this stage police do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
