Man Found Driving With Body In Backseat On NSW Roads
UPDATE: Police are not treating the death as suspicious and understand that the victim, a 52-year-old man, had taken heroin on Sunday afternoon and was attempting to sleep off the effects.
Detectives are now investigating the drug overdose theory.
Police are investigating after finding a body in the backseat of a car they pulled over in Newcastle this morning.
According to a statement, the 52-year-old driver was stopped at 3.15am on Monday on Griffiths Road in Lambton when officers made the gruesome discovery.
"During the vehicle stop, officers have located a man's body on the back seat of the vehicle," a spokesman said.
"The driver was arrested and has been taken to Waratah Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries."
The Daily Telegraph reports that the silver Toyota remains on the side of the road while forensic officers conduct their investigation.
