BridgeClimb Loses Its Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb Contract

The founder of Sydney's Harbour Bridge climb experience has lost its contract after 20 years in business, with the NSW government handing operations to another company.

The operators of Scenic World in the Blue Mountains, the most visited privately-owned tourist attraction in Australia, has been awarded a 20-year contract, the NSW Roads and Maritime Services announced on Friday.

Family business Hammons Holdings - which will take over from BridgeClimb Sydney on October 1 - is promising new climb routes, improved accessibility and new technologies for a "more interactive visitor experience".

Roads and Maritime Services for NSW made the announcement on Friday that BridgeClimb had failed to secure a new contract. The company pioneered the popular tourist attraction in October 1998 and since then they have taken over four million climbers up the arch.

BridgeClimb released a statement expressing their disappointment to losing out on the new 20-year contract and reflecting on the amazing work that they have achieved with the bucket-list experience.

“It has been a privilege for us to make a hero of the Bridge, and of every Climber on every Climb. We will continue to create unforgettable memories until our final Climber,” the statement read. “We will not be making any further statements at this time. Our focus is on our customers, our team, and on preserving our brand, equipment and expertise for future opportunities.”

BridgeClimb will continue taking people on walks across the infamous bridge until September 30 and after that time customers are advised to call for further clarity. This leads people to question the validity of thousands of tickets that tourists may have already booked after the end date.
