Car Smashes Into Pole After Police Chase Through Villawood

A man has been charged after leading police on a chase through a western Sydney suburb before ploughing into a telegraph pole.

According to reports, the vehicle failed to stop for police at about 5.45pm on Monday in Belar Avenue, Villawood, and officers were forced to pursue the car through neighbouring streets.

As the car turned back onto Belar Avenue the driver lost control and crashed into a telegraph pole, coming to a stop.

But while three of the car's occupants - two 18-year-olds and one 22-year-old - got out of the car and surrendered to police, the fourth, the 22-year-old driver, reportedly ran from the scene.

After a short chase, the man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was found to be driving with a cancelled license and breaching a previous bail order.

He was charged with a number of offences; the other three men were questioned and released at the scene.
