Cop Charged With Rape After Online Meeting

A Queensland police officer accused of raping and choking a woman he met on a dating website has been released on bail.

The 23-year-old male constable appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with two counts of rape and one count of assault.

The court heard the pair met after first making contact on the dating website Plenty of Fish last week.

It's alleged the officer from the Northern Police Region sexually assaulted the woman before grabbing her by the throat.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Scott Pearson said the victim told him she didn't want to be choked, to which the accused replied: "Shut up c***".

He then allegedly told her she looked like the kind of girl who "liked to be choked in bed".

The woman then dialled triple-zero, showed the man and threatened to call the police, the court heard.

It's alleged he then swore at her again before leaving.

The court also heard the man has no previous criminal history and strong ties to the community.

There was no suggestion he used a weapon or caused significant injuries, his lawyer said.

His parents also attended the court hearing.

He's been suspended since being arrested by members of the Ethical Standards Command.

Magistrate Tina Previtera granted bail on the conditions the man live with his parents and adjourned the matter until May 16.
