Former Aussie Found Guilty Of Brutally Murdering His Family
A former Perth schoolboy has been found guilty of the brutal axe murder of his family in South Africa in 2015.
The Western Cape High Court in Cape Town has ruled that Henri Van Breda was responsible for a horrifying attack that killed his parents and brother at their Stellenbosch mansion on January 27, 2015.
The 23-year-old was also found guilty of the attempted murder of his sister Marli, aged 16 at the time, however, the attack was so terrible that she couldn’t remember any of it. Marli reportedly suffered severe injuries during the attack.
Van Breda handed himself over to police in September 2016 but pleaded not guilty to the murder. He claimed that an intruder wearing a balaclava was responsible for the attack.
However, during a marathon hearing, Judge Siraj Desai claimed that van Breda had tampered with the crime scene in order to mislead police and even inflicted injuries on himself to convince them that the intruder existed.
The court found van Breda guilty for three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of obstructing justice.
He was denied bail and will remain in custody until his sentencing.
