Huge Sinkhole Opens Near PM Malcolm Turnbulls Sydney Mansion
A sinkhole has opened up in a street near Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's Sydney harbourside mansion.
Emergency services are at the scene on Wentworth Street, Point Piper where a gas line has ruptured caused by a collapsed footpath, Fire & Rescue NSW said.
"Ruptured gas line caused by street collapse has been shut off by f/fighter lowered into pit. Site handed to council," it tweeted on Wednesday.
Mr Turnbull's home is a block away from the street affected.
Recent wet weather is a suspected cause of the driveway sinkhole, which is the size of a backyard pool.
About half a month's worth of rain pelted the city on Tuesday.
A Fire & Rescue spokeswoman said crews were concerned about the impact of the ruptured gas line and exposed electricity cables.
"There was a strong smell of gas and that's why Fire & Rescue were called," she told AAP.
