One Australian Killed, Another Stabbed As Date Goes Wrong

Police have shot a man dead after he allegedly stabbed a woman he met on Tinder before dousing her in petrol and leading police on a car chase.

The 28-year-old woman managed to stumble to a neighbour’s house in the quiet cul-de-sac in Port Macquarie, on the NSW north coast, on Thursday at around 6 PM.

Officers then rushed to the home, where the found the woman lying in blood before taking her to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with serious injuries.

Police then began a manhunt and were led on a high-speed chase down the Pacific Highway, during which a 36-year-old man was shot dead by police.

NSW Police said the shooting was in a 'confrontation' at Bonvillenear Coffs Harbour at about 9.45pm on Thursday.

It is understood the couple met on the dating app Tinder. However it is unclear whether they had been dating or had met on the day of the attack.

'It's not a grubby neighbourhood at all, it's calm, really well kept and very nice,' one witness told the Telegraph.

'A critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident including the discharge of a police firearm,' NSW Police said.

The investigation would be subject to an independent review, and all details would be forwarded to the coroner.
