Salim Mehajer Arrested After Alleged Assault
Salim Mehajer is yet again embroiled in controversy after reportedly spending the night in a police cell.
Auburn's disgraced former deputy mayor allegedly assaulted a taxi driver outside The Star casino in the early hours of the morning; it's believed the altercation involved an EFTPOS machine.
According to The Daily Telegraph, 30-year-old Mehajer then fled the scene in another taxi, before being arrested just after 5am in Darlinghurst.
Officers have confirmed that an investigation has been launched, and that an EFTPOS machine and the taxi driver's mobile phone, both found at The Star, were being forensically examined.
Mehajer is currently being interviewed by local police.
"A 30-year-old man is assisting with inquiries after the alleged assault of a taxi driver outside a Pyrmont entertainment complex this morning," a police spokesperson said.
Mehajer's latest drama comes just days after his estranged wife Aysha was seen in public for the first time since their split.
