Government Announces When Australia Votes On Gay Marriage

The government has proposed to hold a same-sex marriage plebiscite on November 25.
The vote can only happen if the deal passes through the senate in the next few weeks.

A plebiscite means Australians will be asked to vote of they agree or disagree with same-sex marriage but the result is not legally binding.

The vote will be undertaken via the postal service.
