The NSW Road Rule That Could Cost You $433

A little known technicality could see NSW road users fined hundreds of dollars for giving way to an ambulance.

While motorists are always expected to move out of the way for emergency vehicles, they can be punished if that involves creeping over the stop line at an intersection.

Regardless of the circumstances, the red light camera will be activated and you'll technically have "run" the light as per rule 59 (1).

You could try to argue your case at the State Debt Recovery Office, of course, but you won't really have a leg to stand on.

And that means a $433 fine AND three demerit points.
