Woman Charged With Murder Of Elderly Mum In NSW Nursing Home
A woman has been charged with murder after her elderly mother was found dead in an aged care facility in the Southern Highlands over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to The Warrigal, a nursing home located in Bundanoon, at about 9:35pm on Sunday August 5 after reports that a 92-year-old woman had died.
Police confirmed that officers from the Hume Police District opened an investigation and on Wednesday the elderly woman’s daughter, 67-year-old Barbara Mary Eckersley, was arrested.
“Officers from The Hume Police District commenced inquiries, and about 10:30am yesterday, the woman’s 67-year-old daughter was arrested at Southern Highland Police station,” read a statement from NSW police.
Ms Eckersley was subsequently charged with murder and refused bail.
She appeared briefly at Goulburn Local Court on Thursday and her matter is due to appear back in the same court on August 10.
