Emergency services have responded to a serious crash on the M5 in Sydney’s south west this morning.
Just after 7am, emergency services rushed to the eastbound lanes of the M5 at Hammondville, after reports of a crash.
Police have been told the bucket of an excavator has come off and hit an Alpha Romeo, causing the car to roll.
The female driver, aged in her 20s, was freed and treated for a serious head injury. She was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers from Liverpool Local Area Command attended and are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Police are appealing for any witnesses and the driver of a westbound truck carrying an excavator, who may not have known, to come forward.
There are traffic delays as emergency service crews works to clear the scene and police are urging drivers to please avoid the area.
