Woman With 18-MO Baby Robbed At Knifepoint In Sydney's West

A mother and her 18-month-old baby have had a lucky escape after a man wielding a knife threatened them as they got into their car in Sydney's west yesterday evening.

The woman had just finished buckling the toddler into her car, which was located in a car park on Nelson Street, Fairfield, at about 5.15pm on Tuesday and was getting into the driver's seat when the thief also entered the vehicle.

He threatened the woman with a knife until she handed over cash and some personal items before fleeing the scene.

Luckily, both mum and baby were uninjured during the incident.

An investigation has been launched into the theft, and police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is described as being in his early 30s, Pacific Islander or Maori in appearance and approximately 175-180 cm tall with a large build.

He was last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper and running towards Ware Street.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
