Ariana Grande’s most recent studio album, Sweetener, just wasn’t enough to share what she’s going through in her life.
In between the release of Sweetener and the surprise drop of new album track (and possible title track) thank u, next, it seems like Ariana Grande has lived all the seasons in one day.
She got engaged to Pete Davidson, comedian from Saturday Night Live. They got matching tattoos, moved in together, walked red carpets together and even got a teacup pig together.
Pete and Ariana have broken off their engagement, following the unexpected death of her ex, Mac Miller.
Ariana Grande and Mac Miller were together on and off for years, but had inevitably broken it off because she felt she was responsible for him and had to ‘mother him’ through his addiction to drugs. Although they broke up, they quite clearly loved each other until the end and Ariana was completely broken by his passing.

i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest.
Mac Miller’s unexpected death coincided with the release of her fourth album, Sweetener in August. Ariana vowed to take a break from music for a while however she’s jumped straight back in the studio for ‘her own sanity’ and started work on her next album, detailing her pain and struggles.
In a very abrupt release, Ariana Grande has shared a brand new song, thank u, next whose title was teased a few weeks ago on Ari’s Twitter.
Fans were quick to note that Grande used the phrase ‘Thank U, Next’ after calling out her former fiance Pete Davidson over a Saturday Night Live sketch that poked fun at their very public breakup.
Ariana then appeared to respond on Twitter, hitting back at her ex by saying, “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy you sure love clinging to it huh”.
In the song, ‘Thank U, Next’, she names her former flames, Pete Davidson, Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez and the late Mac Miller.
“Thought I’d end up with Sean/ But it wasn’t a match/ Wrote some songs about Ricky/ Now I listen and laugh,” sings Ariana.
“Even almost got married/ And for Pete, I’m so thankful/ Wish I could say, ‘Thank you to Malcolm ‘Cause he was an angel.”
Ariana took to Twitter to let her fans know that he next album will also be called ‘Thank U, Next’ and this is the title track.
“Issa song and an album…you’ll get the song first,” she revealed. “A new chapter, gratitude, growth, embracing our path bumps n all…thank u, next.”
