We’ve all heard horror stories about how exxy healthcare is in the US… and well, this is just another example.
But it seems that even Americans are blindsided by how pricey their system is.
Especially when it comes to charging top dollar for something as basic as having skin-to-skin contact with your newborn.
“I know it’s cliché to say,” tweeted Ben Kling, “but this hospital charging parents ‘$39.95’ to hold their newborn baby is a REALLY tight microcosm of capitalism.”

That’s $55 Aussie bucks.
With almost 137,000 likes and 45, 600 retweets, it obvs struck a chord…
I had back surgery in 07, luckily had good insurance.
Hospital charged me/insurance 90 bucks PER PILL to give me my own epilepsy medication. As in, I brought the meds and the nurse handed them to me.

That’s the hospital equivalent of a corkage fee. You must have been in a “fine dining” Hospital.

20 years ago I was charged $7.50 for an “oral rehydration system”. Which turned out to be a mini-can of ginger ale.

Through British eyes, this is insanity. You won’t stand for taxes but you’ll accept this?

It reads like something from an exaggerated dystopian story where you think the author went a little overboard

My sons was $13,000 for delivery and $50,000 for a one week stay because he MAY be sick b/c I had a fever

My friend had a $25k delivery, we ran the numbers — would’ve actually been cheaper to fly first to the Four Seasons Bora Bora and do a home birth + recovery in one of their suites. It’s INSANE.
