This mother’s unusual demand when it comes to hosting Christmas lunch has divided the internet.
It’s been revealed that a woman in the UK has told her son and daughter-in-law that she expected them to fork out £17 (which is around $30) to pay for Christmas lunch.
The shocked couple decided to share their story online to see if being expected to pay for a dinner you’ve been invited to was fair enough.
As anyone who’s hosted a Christmas dinner can attest to, the cost of putting on such a big spread can be VERY expensive!
The cost of all that food and alchol can quickly add up to big dollars, and it’s not uncommon for a host to ask their guests to bring a plate to help out hosting a big event like Chrissy lunch or dinner, so is asking them to pay instead any different?
It’s been revealed that this mum has decided to charge her guests, and her son is now reconsidering if he should go, while his wife posted on Mumsnet that she is happy to bring a dish to help out, but handing over cash for Christmas lunch “just feels wrong”.
“(She) wants to get it all pre done so it’s more money, which I understand but he’s gutted and feels like he wants to come to my family now. I can see it from both sides and it’s hard work and can be expensive but not like she is financially destitute.”
“This has never happened before and he has offered to bring the dessert etc but he said handing over cash just feels wrong. As he says it’s about family not money”
What do you reckon, is this fair enough, or is this woman being a MASSIVE Scrooge?
