Move over Labradoodles, this super-curly pussycat (that sometimes look like they’ve either had a rough night or a well-worn towel) has been taking social media by storm.
Although still a rarity, the Selkirk Rex – or the ‘sheep cat’ – has grown in popularity since the breed originated in Montana, USA in 1987, when a litter was born to a rescue cat.
One of the kittens which had an unusually shaggy coat was ultimately placed with breeder, Jeri Newman, who named the moggy Miss DePesto, after curly-haired Moonlighting actress, Allyce Beasley.
The kitten then became the dominant breeder and, from there, a long and short-haired type was bred.
