Police have opened an investigation after an elderly couple was coughed on by an unknown man in the state’s Hunter Region while going for a walk on Easter Sunday in an apparent prank.
Just before 2pm on Sunday, a 73-year-ld man and 68-year-old woman were walking in Nelson Bay when a white Nissan Navara pulled up alongside them at a crossing.
Police say that a man leant out of the car and coughed over the couple before he and the occupants of the car began to laugh and drove off.
The couple contacted police and an investigation was opened to try and identify the occupants of the car.
Police say that they would like to speak with a man who they believe can assist with inquiries who is described as being of Caucasian appearance with tanned skin, aged in his late teens of early 20s with short, dark, curly hair.
Anyone with any information or possible dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident is being urged to contact Nelson Bay police.
