You might think to yourself that Gelato is merely a delicious canvas upon which all manner of flavours are painted. From the quintessential vanilla to the more exotic Pistachio Praline or Dulce De Leche that the amazing Gelato Messina grace us with, it’s clearly going to be one of the staples of your diet as summer gets closer and temperatures rise, but now there’s one more way to enjoy the delicious treat – as beer.

Gelato Messina have teamed up with Australian Brewery to bring the two world together, turning their incredible Dulce De Leche into ‘Gelato Ale’, which hits the shelves of Dan Murphy’s, BWS and select liquor stores across NSW from December 1st.

If you can’t wait that long, there’s a launch party today – Wednesday November 27th – 5PM at the Royal Albert Hotel.

Messina’s Dulce De Leche is their own home-made take on the South American classic, after Australia banned imports of milk products from Argentina. It’s basically caramel made with milk and should be the perfect companion for the brewed goodness of beer, definitively proving that beer can be a dessert drink.

Described as ‘a complex malt character combined with the smooth and creamy nature of dulce de leche’, it’s meant to be a delicious beer with smooth hints of caramel.

Check out the behind-the-scenes on how this crazy crossover came to be!
