Sydney commuters hoping to get across the Harbour Bridge this morning were told to “get out and walk” after train services came to a halt.

Following reports of a “broken train” at Town Hall Station, an announcement reportedly blared over the intercom advising commuters to “walk to North Sydney… doubt the trains will get their act together”.

According to Sydney Trains, a loose hatch on top of a train had come close to overhead wiring at Town Hall station.

“To secure safely [sic], the power from this section of track must be isolated,” Sydney Trains tweeted.

“Our electrical crews are working to do this ASAP, and repair crews will then secure the hatch safely.”

Commuters heading to North Sydney were told to catch buses instead.

However, this led to congestion outside Town Hall.

After two hours of repairs, trains are now running.

Commuters are still encouraged to allow extra time.
